Bowtiful Life January '20 Playlist

Happy January, my friends! It’s a brand new month, a new year, and a new decade… So it’s time to share my January ’20 Playlist! My picks this month are a bit all over the board when it comes to genre. However, they’re all songs that I’ve been drawn to because of their lyrics.

This month I’m especially loving a song that’s new to me from Ben Rector. “30,000 Feet” came out in 2015, but I just came across it in December thanks to my Discover Weekly playlist on Spotify!

I can still remember the day that I first heard this song. To be completely honest with you, it hadn’t been a particularly good one for me. With that in mind, these lyrics really hit me – hard. For me, these lyrics serve as a reminder that you can be going through a difficult time in life, but once it passes you may come to appreciate it as much as you appreciate a positive experience. It’s all about perspective! What we go through in life and how we respond to what is thrown our way plays a HUGE role in the person that we become. That being said, it is so important to be able to embrace both the good and bad experiences because they are equal parts of our journey and our past. Looking back on my 2019 – the good and the bad – life really has been good to me.

“I’ve been better, I’ve been worse…
…I’ve walked into harder times, I’ve walked out the other side
It seems like you end up getting what you need
Yeah, looking down from 30,000 feet
Life’s been good to me.“

Another fave from this month’s playlist is “Dear Love” by Johnny Cochran. I first came across Johnny a few months ago when he and his band were performing at one of my favorite bars in Chicago. (If you’re a country fan, Old Crow in Wrigleyville is a great spot for live music and a fun night with friends!)

“Dear Love” was released at the beginning of this month and I love it because the song is catchy enough to get stuck in your head, but at the same time there’s depth behind the lyrics. Leading up to the release, Johnny posted videos explaining more of the backstory behind the song. As someone who really likes music with meaningful lyrics and a story, having additional insight as to the origin of a song is always such a treat! If you want to check out those pre-release videos and the music video you can do that right here. I know this song is going to end up on repeat a lot this month!

I’d love to hear what you’re listening to right now! DM me on Instagram and let me know you’ll be jamming out to this month.

Happy listening!
