Happy 16th Birthday Malala Yousafzai!

July 12, 2013

I just finished watching the live stream of Malala Yousafzai’s address to the United Nations Youth Assembly in honor of her sixteenth birthday, Malala Day. I am inspired as well as speechless. Her words were so powerful! Malala is one of the young leaders of our time who speaks out for those who may not be able to speak for themselves or whose voices are lost. Malala has had the power to inspire others into action through her courage, strength, and words. She is an amazing girl who has gone against all odds to support and fight for education for all the children of the world. Malala is an inspiration for all of us.
These were just a few quotes from Malala’s speech today that really stood out to me:
“Remember one thing, Malala Day is not my day. Today is the day of every woman, every boy, and every girl who has raised their voice for their rights”
“Let us shield ourselves with unity and togetherness”
“Out of the silence came thousands of voices … strength, power, and courage was born”
“No one can stop us. We will speak up for our rights and we will bring change through our voice”
“One child, one teacher, one book, and one pen can change the world”
Happy birthday Malala!
xoxo,

I didn't get a chance to watch the speech, but I am SO inspired by her.
