Periwinkle on the Pier

Remember how just a few days ago it felt like Spring in Chicago? Well… It started snowing late last night and there are still flurries falling outside of my window right now. Gotta love Chicago weather, right?

What I Wore

Land’ End Parka  –  Circle Scarf (similar)  –  Periwinkle Sweater (No longer available, but here’s a similar knit style and similar color.) –  Kendra Scott Earrings  –  Kendra Scott Necklace (Similar style.)  –  Gold Signet Ring  –  J.Crew Jeans  –  Frye Boots (On sale right now!)

On a different chilly day, I was at Navy Pier shooting these photos. It was SO cold, but the light reflecting off of the water was absolutely gorgeous. There’s something so deceiving about Chicago’s winter sunlight.  (more…)

Turtleneck & Tiles

Happy Tuesday! On a recent, rainy day one of my blogger buds and I ventured out for a shoot/work date. We headed to the Chicago Cultural Center to take advantage of the gorgeous interior architecture before making our way over to Soho House for drinks and some blogging time.

What I Wore

Banana Republic Turtleneck  –  Banana Republic Skirt  –  ITEM m6 Tights ℅  –  B.P. Booties (On Sale!)  –  Kendra Scott Necklace & Drusy Studs  –  Signet Ring  –  Timex Watch ℅

I absolutely love the Chicago Cultural Center! This was Ashlee‘s first visit, but my friend/roomie/photographer, Ola, and I also shot a style post here a few years ago. This place is incredible!  (more…)

Navy Pier Crystal Gardens

Anyone who has visited Chicago has heard of Navy Pier, but not many people are familiar with their “Crystal Gardens.” This stunning greenhouse style garden features a fifty foot arched glass ceiling & numerous palm trees. It’s like a tropical escape in the middle of the city!

What I Wore

Lands’ End Sweater (similar)  –  L.L. Bean Vest (No longer available, similar option here.)  –  J.Crew Jeans  –  Kendra Scott Earrings  –  Dainty Necklace  –  Monogram Necklace (similar)  –  Heirloom Signet Ring  –  Frye Boots (On sale!)

I’ve always loved the Crystal Gardens and I consider them one of many hidden gems in Chicago. People hold weddings and proms there, but on a regular day you can just walk in to stroll around or sit down to appreciate the natural light and beautiful greenery.

I’ll always associate the Crystal Gardens with one Navy Pier visit in particular, back when I was little.  (more…)

Houndstooth Cardigan

TGIF! Who else is pumped that it’s finally Friday? I’m ready for a chill weekend filled with time spent with friends, working on homework and doing some shooting for the blog.

On weekends that I’m not working, I love throwing on big cardigans like this one (unfortunately it’s no longer available, but here’s another cozy one) and sitting down with a cup of coffee or tea to enjoy the morning light in my apartment. There’s something incredibly centering about being able to just sit and relax rather than rushing out the door like I do most mornings. It gives me a chance to center myself.

What I Wore

Houndstooth Cardigan (No longer available, similar style here.)  –  Kendra Scott Rayne Necklace, Earrings, Lisa Necklace, Ring, Bracelet  –  Timex Watch ℅  –  Long Sleeved Top  –  Hudson Jeans  –  Mulberry Bag  –  Nail Polish

Another thing that I love about big cardigans like this one, beyond the fact that they’re super cozy, is that they can easily be dressed up or down! (more…)

Blogiversary: Bowtiful Life is FIVE!

Five years ago today, I published my very first post here on Bowtiful Life. Today, I’m publishing my 627th!!!

If I’m being 100% honest here, I seriously just typed that out and then had to read it out loud to myself. 5 years?!? 627 posts?!? That’s crazy!

It feels like it was just yesterday that I was sitting in the computer lab in my high school during one of my free periods messing around on blogger, creating the first design layout and drafting my first post.

Rose Gold Sequined NYE 2017

Happy New Year’s Eve!

There’s nothing quite like a bit of bling, rose gold and sequins to kick off the new year! This blazer was a Christmas gift and as soon as I opened it I knew it would be the perfect piece for a NYE look. I paired it with some of my favorite jewelry, some black basics and voilà!

Blanket Scarf in Bucktown

One of the many things that I love about Chicago is the number of murals you can see throughout various neighborhoods. I first saw this wall in Bucktown earlier this fall and I fell in LOVE with it.

Forever 21 Bodysuit (No longer available. Similar options here, here and here.)  –  BP. Scarf  –  Banana Republic Skirt (This similar version is less than $15!)  –  Mulberry Alexa Bag (Retired, but available secondhand.)  –  J.Crew Tights  –  BP. Booties  –  Nars Lip Pencil in “Cruella”  –  Kendra Scott Earrings, Rayne Necklace and Elyse Ring  –  Timex Watch ℅  –  Monogram Necklace

I knew it would be the perfect spot to shoot this fun cold-shoulder, holiday look and I love how the bright red accents pop against the black and white wall! Around the holidays, you can’t go wrong with a red lip and this matte lip pencil from Nars in “Cruella” has become one of my new favorite reds.

Lincoln Park Pavillion

Can you believe that it’s December already? Fall is turning into winter in Chicago and Christmas is right around the corner! I love fall in Chicago, so I’m sad to see it go, but I am also SO excited for some snow.

I wanted to share this final fall look before we got dusted with our first real batch of snow. Warm caramel brown tones are some of my favorite colors to wear while the leaves are changing colors and there are still a decent number of trees with leaves since it’s been a very warm fall. Gotta love Chicago weather, am I right?
